Monday morning my mom called and offered to take Sam for the afternoon so I could take Parker to the "Big Bug" exhibit at the museum. She must read my blog and just knew that I really wanted some one on one time with my boys!! Parker was SUPER excited because this is a boy who LOVES his bugs!! Sam was more than happy to go hang out with Grandma because Sam is a boy who does NOT enjoy a bug! I don't blame him a bit. So we headed downtown to the Van Andel Museum to check it out.
Parks got his brochure from the ticket lady and was ready to lead the way!
We stopped off on the way to see a few bears. This is Parker giving me his best "ROAR"
Getting Ready to go in! Still holding onto that brochure! Ha!
That is a big Fly!!
HELP this Praying Mantis is going to eat me!!
Can't you tell Parker is so annoyed.....I mean Scared!
Fighting Beetles
BIG Mantis!
Look at the size of that grass hopper.
Kind of weird though, like every couple of minutes this GIANT
Sized bottle of bug spray would sound and Parker
would say "Time to Kill The Grasshopper"
Yikes!!
Getting ready to climb the giant Spider Web
Puzzles about the life cycles of bugs!
Fascinating to this little man.
These were LIVE crickets. It was sooooo gross.
We must have spent 20 minutes watching these things
eat and chirp and hop all around. I kept my eye on the top to make
sure non of these little suckers got out! Ewww....
Up Close And Personal With a Cricket!
Taking a break in the cafe. Great scenery of the river and carousel!
Parker taking a picture of me!
He was probably thinking
"paybacks Mom"
This is the face of a VERY happy little boy who
REALLY enjoyed the bugs!!!
You rest Mom, I'll drive!
On our way to the carousel we stopped to watch them
take down the giant table and chairs from Art Prize.
He thought that was pretty cool too!
Parker got his very own special ride on the carousel because
we were the only ones there!!!
Seriously, would you want to ride this
crazy ass looking horse?!?!?!
So that about wraps up our trip to see the bugs. On the way home we stopped at the Ice Cream Garage and got Ice Cream cones. It was such a fun, relaxing, easy going time. He was so good and I just felt like we spent some good quality bonding time together! If you haven't been to see the bugs I highly recommend it! I think the exhibit is there until the end of the month. However the nice lady at the ticket counter stopped us on our way out and asked me if he was scared at all. I told her no, he wasn't scared but he is also old enough to realize that they aren't real either. She told me that they have had a lot of parents come back asking for a refund because their kids were so scared they wouldn't even go in. Yikes! Good thing we didn't bring Sam along because I have a feeling he may have been one of those kids!!!
